The technique known as "clay tempering" involves covering the blade with a mixture of clay, focusing on areas that do not require high hardness. The sword is then heated to a specific temperature. When the red-hot blade is quenched in water, the exposed part rapidly cools while the clay-covered part's temperature changes are less noticeable. This results in different hardness levels between the exposed and covered parts, achieving a balance of flexibility and hardness. Even with high blade hardness, this method maintains good durability and burned with different water ripples.
We will explore the differences in performance of T10 steel, pattern steel, high carbon steel, and manganese steel when it comes to blade properties.
